Becky Barry: Outdoor Cooking Becky
has been involved in outdoor activities since early childhood, becoming
involved with competitive shooting at 14 and hunting at 16. Becky holds
her Master's Degree in teaching and served as NH Fish and Game's Hunter Education Coordinator
for six years. Becky does free lance outdoor writing along with
educational consulting and training. Becky has done canoe camping
voyages to Minnesota's Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness.
Kathleen Bigford: Mountain Biking Kathleen
has been an avid biker since 1979 and shares Emily Wrubel's enthusiasm
for road and mountain biking. Kathleen placed second in New England in
the NORBA Masters Women Racers competition. Kathy teaches 6th grade at
Great Brook Elementary School, in Antrim.
Alan Briere: Nature Photography for the Beginner and Nature Photography in the Field Alan
is a freelance photojournalist specializing in natural landscapes,
wildlife and travel. He is the sole photographer of five books with
subjects ranging from Civil War Battlefields and American Zoos to
Historic Inns. Alan's photos appear in hundreds of books, magazines,
advertising and corporate publications annually. His clients range from
the National Geographic Society, the United Nations and the Boy Scouts
of America to Natural History, Yankee and Ranger Rick magazines.
David Buchanan: Field Dressing Big Game and Introduction to Bow Hunting David is an avid outdoorsman, who processes all his own game. He is a certified instructor in both the Hunter and Bowhunter Education programs of Fish and Game. By profession, Dave is a business educator\trainer.
Joseph Cannarella: Outdoors Skills and Survival Joe
is an avid outdoorsman. He has 18 years experience as a certified
Hunter Education Instructor for NH Fish and Game Department. He is also
a certified instructor with the International Bowhunter Education Foundation
and an NRA instructor in muzzleloading. Joe is a retired colonel from
the Army Reserves. Joe specializes in outdoor safety skills and is the
founder of SAV-T-PAK,
a company that distributes survival kits and the manual he co-authored.
Joe is a retired registered pharmacist and worked as a district sales
manager for a major pharmaceutical manufacturer.
Donna Cote: Basic Camping and Outdoor Cooking Donna
is a life-long resident of NH and has experienced NH outdoors while on
family camping trips as well as with the Girl Scouts. She has
instructed Girl Scout leaders in outdoor living skills. Donna has
completed several canoe trips, most recently in the Boundary Waters,
Minnesota. She currently lives on a small lake in NH where she enjoys
kayaking and bird watching.
Nancy & Jim Cowan: Friday Evening Program Falconry: Not Just for Royalty Anymore Master
Falconer Nancy Cowen has been licensed since 1990. She and her
husband, Jim Cowen, helped to sponsor the legislation by which the
sport became a legal means of taking game in New Hampshire (eff. Jan.
1, 1998). She is a member of North American Falconers'
Assn. She does numerous presentations and demonstrations of
falconry to school, conservation and other groups. A freelance
writer, her articles about dogs and falcons working together have won
national awards. Nancy will bring two "assistants" to help her
with the class: a Harris hawk named 'Injun who is her main
hunting companion. Nancy and the birds will be ready to make
acquaintance with falconry class candidates Friday evening and Saturday
morning prior to class.
Randy Curtis: Basic Map & Compass Randy
is the Federal Aid Coordinator for the NH Fish and Game Department and
enjoys hunting, fishing and outdoor photography. Randy has
developed his own map and compass skills through numerous hunting trips
and other outdoor excursions. He uses map and compass extensively
to enhance his safety and enjoyment while in the outdoors.
Hope Eagleston: Basic Ice Fishing
Hope grew up in New Hampshire. As youth she spent her summers
fishing in the harbor of Monhegan Island Maine. Hope has attended
several of the "Let's Go Fishing" programs, which inspired her to
become a volunteer instructor of the program. She has traveled to
several places giving her the opportunity to fish in New Zealand and
Cost Rica.
Dave Erler: What Grows here?
Dave attended St. Cloud State University and completed some graduate
work in Environmental Interpretation at Texas A&M. Dave was a
naturalist with the National Park Service and University of Minnesota
Extension service before coming to the Center in 1979. Dave was
recognized as the New England Environmental Education Alliance's
Educator of the Year in 2002.
Sandy Falicon: Becoming a Packable Gourmet Sandy
has worked for the NH Fish and Game Department for almost 20 years.
Sandy is an active saltwater angler in the coastal waters off New
Hampshire and North Carolina. Sandy also enjoys freshwater fishing,
boating, wilderness canoeing, camping and turkey hunting.
Tom Flynn: Introduction to Rifle
Tom is a lifelong resident of NH; he is employed by the NH Fish and
Game Dept. as the Hunter Education Program Coordinator. Tom has over 30
years hunting and fishing experience, he is a certified hunter,
bowhunter, and let's go fishing instructor, he is a member of the NRA,
U.S. Sportsman's Alliance, Pemi Fish and Game Club, and NH Wildlife
Federation. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, softball, and
spending time in the outdoors.
Curt Golder: Introduction to Freshwater Fishing and Fishing on Golden Pond Curt brings you over 39 years of angling experience. Curt is a licensed NH fishing guide and the owner of Gadabout Golder Guide Service and Fly-fishing school in Wolfeboro, NH. Curt is a certified instructor for Fish and Game's "Let's Go Fishing" program and trained by NH Fish and Game and UNH Coop Extension to present "Wonders of Wildlife" programs to schools.
Anne Gwynne: Introduction to Hiking and Wilderness Backpacking Anne is an active member of the NH chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club(AMC).
Since 1984, she has climbed the highest 100 mountains in New England in
both summer and winter, and has climbed all 451 New England mountains
over 3,000 feet. She has also hiked the "Long Trail" in Vermont, and is
currently attempting to climb all peaks of 14,000 feet in Colorado. She
recently attended a weeklong workshop involving glacier travel and
mountaineering.
Paula Harper: Introduction to Rifle Paula
has been active in hunter education for the past 10 years. She is
currently instructing on two teams, one in Manchester and one in
Goffstown. Paula enjoys many aspects of outdoor life, including
hunting, fishing, target shooting, horseback riding, cross-country
skiing and camping. Having spent many vacations in Colorado and other
western states, she is planning to go back, this time with her
daughter, to introduce her to the joys of being an outdoors woman. Eli
Krause, who is also active in hunter education, will assist Paula.
Linda Harris: Handling Handguns Linda
has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. She is certified as
N.R.A. Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, N.R.A. Personal Protection
Instructor, N.R.A. Pistol Instructor, N.R.A. Rifle Instructor, N.R.A.
Shotgun Instructor, N.R.A. Class -C Coach, SIGARMS Armorer. She
has 20 years of competitive shooting and coaching experience. Linda
is associated with National Rifle Association (N.R.A.), American
Women's Self Defense (A.W.S.D.), Gun Owners of New Hampshire (GO - NH).
Karina Jolles: Fishing on Golden Pond Karina
is the "Let's Go Fishing" Program Coordinator for the N.H. Fish and
Game Department. She has worked for Fish and Game since 2002,
starting as a Biological Aid and then moving into a Biologist position
within the Marine Division. Karina grew up fishing with her
family and has been involved with education, in an informal setting,
most of her life. She never misses an opportunity to pass along
her knowledge, experience and passion for getting outside and casting a
line on New Hampshire's beautiful waters.
Jill Kelly: Furbearers Forever Jillian
Kelly is a wildlife biologist at the Lancaster NH Fish and Game
office. She received her undergraduate degree in wildlife
management from the University of New Hampshire in 2000, and has
recently completed her master's degree in wildlife conservation at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst. For her master's research,
Jill worked extensively with New Hampshire's trappers and furbearers by
intensively studying American marten distribution and potential
occurrence in NH.
Dick LaFleur: Furbearers Forever Dick
has been an outdoor enthusiast all of his life. Living in the
North Country it has been natural for him to take up hunting and
fishing, but trapping is his foremost interest. He has trapped
all of NH furbearers for over 40 years and has trapped in Northern
Maine for several years. He has been a NH Fish and Game Trapper
Education Volunteer Instructor since 1982.
John Lanier: Reading Wildlife Signs & Identification John
worked at NH Fish and Game for 10yrs as a Wildlife Habitat
Biologist. Before NH Fish and Game he worked for the US Forest
Service and ran the Wildlife Management Program for the White Mountain
National Forest for 25yrs.
Sue Lorenezen (Barnes): Wilderness First Aid Sue
is a Wilderness EMT working as a member of the SOLO staff. In
addition to teaching wilderness medicine courses and coordinating
course logistics, she also volunteers on her town rescue squad as well
as backcountry search and rescue operations in the Mount Washington
Valley area. Sue's passion for playing in the outdoors led her to
work professionally with many outdoor organizations and has inspired
her to travel throughout the U.S. and parts of Europe in pursuit of fun!
Dianne Matott: Fly Fishing A-Z and Intermediate Fly Fishing Dianne
is a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Fly Casting Instructor and a
Fish and Game certified Fly Fishing Instructor. She is a member of
Trout Unlimited, Federation of Fly Fishers, American Casting
Association and attended Joan Wulff's School of Fly Fishing.
Dianne has been a fly fisher for many years, ties flies and spends a
lot of time fishing the waters of Northern New Hampshire and Montana
with her husband. She is an outdoor enthusiast who also enjoys skiing,
biking, hiking, and canoeing.
Al and Lorri Menard: Introduction to Firearms & Safety and Deer Hunting Both Al and Lorri are certified Fish and Game instructors for the Lyndeborough NH Hunter Education Team. They also instruct Bowhunter Education and Trapper Education.
Lorri and Al are avid hunters and officers of Pinnacle Mountain Fish
and Game Club in Lyndeborough, members of the Chester Rod & Gun
Club and are delegates to the Granite State Bowhunters.
Bob Mitchell: Fly Fishing A-Z Bob shares his love of fishing as a "Let's Go Fishing"
instructor with the NH Fish and Game Department. Bob is a devotee of
fly-fishing and loves to introduce newcomers to the sport. He has
affiliates with the United Fly-Tyers Inc., Trout Unlimited, is a board member of NH Fly-fishers and the Coastal Conservation Association.
Jim Prendible: Fly Fishing A-Z Jim
has been an avid fly angler and tier for 16 years. As a NH Fish
and Game "Let's Go Fishing" instructor for the past 8 years, Jim has
been able to share his enthusiasm and love for the sport as well as
knowledge of the outdoors to all newcomers. A resident of
Manchester, NH, he enjoys many aspects of outdoor life including
hunting, camping, target shooting and outdoor survival skills.
Andrew J. O'Shaughnessy: Introduction to Kayaking Andy
has been kayaking since 1989. He owned and operated the
Winnipesauke Kayak Company in Wolfeboro for 10 years guiding and
instructing. He is certified through the American Canoe
Association and is a Registered Maine Guide. He has a broad
knowledge of the outdoors through his experiences with kayaking,
canoeing, fly fishing, backpacking and traveling through the US and
abroad. Andy resides in Wolfeboro, NH and spends three months out
of the year in New Zealand's backcountry.
Kristen and Jim Riccardi: Introduction to Fly-tying Kristen
learned to fly fish, tie flies and hunt while dating her husband Jim.
Kristen has been tying for eight years and instructing for the past
four years. Additionally, she has been a fly fishing instructor for the
NH Fish and Game "Let's Go Fishing"
program fly fishing weekends for the past several years. Kristen and
Jim operate the Golden Demon Fly Shop and are bird hunting enthusiasts.
John Richardson: Introduction to Muzzleloader John is a certified NH Fish and Game Hunter Education Instructor, and a certified Muzzleloading Education Instructor with the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association.
He is also the Regional Field Representative Coordinator for New
England and New York in the NMLRA. John first got involved in
muzzleloading, prior to the nation's bicentennial. What started with
one hunting rifle has expanded to many rifles and pistols used mostly
in competition. He is a former Flintlock Rifle State Champion. Janet
and Doug Morse of Marlborough, NH and Bob Valade of Nashua will assist
John.
Julie Robinson: Becoming a Packable Gourmet Julie
is a field biologist with the Region III Office in Durham, starting as
a field technician in the Concord office of NH Fish and Game. Her love
of the outdoors and wildlife has led to a variety of projects including
waterfowl, big game and furbearer work. Julie has been enthusiastically
committed to the B.O.W. program from the start. "It's really neat to
see the changes in women who have never had outdoor opportunities fall
in love with fishing, hunting or other activities by the end of the
program."
Laura Ryder: Eco-Touring Squam Lake by Kayak Laura
Ryder is the Aquatic Resources Education Program Supervisor for the New
Hampshire Fish & Game Department. She coordinates the Becoming an
Outdoors Woman Program and other statewide aquatic education programs
for the department. Laura has a B.S. in Environmental Biology and a
Med. in Environmental Science Education. She enjoys any kind of
fishing, hunting, kayaking, and introducing her four-year-old son to
the great outdoors. She believes that education is the key to
conserving our natural resources.
Sarah Sanders:
Fly Fishing A-Z
and
Intermediate Fly Fishing
Sarah
lives in Western Massachusetts. She guided fly fishing trips on
the upper Deerfield River and the Westfield River systems. She is
a certified fly fishing guide in New Hampshire and guided trips in the
wilds of Northern New Hampshire on the upper Connecticut River.
She is a member of Trout Unlimited and an instructor for Casting for
Recovery. Her passion for the outdoors included hunting and
teaching all she knows.
Julia Steed Mawson: Backyard Habitat Julia
joined UNH Cooperative Extension in 1977. She first served as a marine
education specialist in the Sea Grant program where she served as
Director of the Visitor Center at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, NH.
In 1991 she became a part of the Hillsborough County 4-H program as an
extension educator, operating out of the Pine Island 4-H Environmental
Education Center. In the winter of 1996, the Pine Island staff moved to
the Goffstown County Complex. There she helps to oversee 4-H programs
for the Greater Manchester area, including programs for families such
as Exploring Nature With Your Family, summer day camp programs,
community stewardship events and traditional 4-H clubs. Her work with
the 4-H clubs includes volunteer recruitment, training and providing
volunteer support.
Judy Tumosa: Eco-Touring Squam Lake by Kayak Judy
is the Watershed Education Specialist for NHF&G. In her 20 + years
of being an outdoorswoman, she has learned to hunt, fish, canoe, hike,
backpack, camp and rock climb with her husband and two sons. She has
many years of experience in teaching environmental education to
youngsters of all ages and in her spare time she loves to read mystery
novels, crochet scarves and cook everything.
Paula Wanzer: Introduction to Canoeing Paula
Wanzer is a certified canoe instructor of One Step Further, which
conducts instructional programs for children and adults. Instruction is
customized for each student's knowledge and capabilities so that they
will continue to pursue this sport as a lifelong leisure activity.
Emily Wrubel: Mountain Biking Emily
owned and operated a bike shop for 12 years, and is the organizer of a
30-mile mountain bike race that benefits the Hillsboro NH rescue squad.
She teaches 7th and 8th graders in Pembroke, NH and is an avid biking
enthusiast. Emily has biked coast-to-coast, done bike tours, and has
commuted by bike to work.
Marcia Wyman: Introduction to Archery and Intermediate Archery Marcia is a graduate and former staff member of The World Archery Center, Pomfret, CT. She is certified by the National Field Archery Association
and is a level IV National Coach, under the National Archery
Association. An avid archer, she has received recognition and awards
for her skills at state, regional and national levels. Marcia is the
director and co-founder of the New England School of Archery and
presents workshops and clinics at schools, camps, clubs and festivals
throughout New England.
Marilyn Wyzga: Backyard Habitat Marilyn
coordinates the schoolyard habitat program for NH Fish and Game.
She authored the curriculum guide, Homes for Wildlife, and developed
the training program that has involved in schools for over 10
years. Marilyn's passion for native plants led her to study with
the New England Wild Flower Society and the National Gardening
Association. She has applied her design skills to exhibits and
theater, and is currently turning them to landscape design, beginning
with her own backyard.
