Ready to take your fly fishing skills to the next level?

Join us this May for an Intermediate Fly Fishing Weekend designed for anglers who have mastered the basics and are ready to refine their technique. Learn advanced casting strategies, explore new waters, and gain confidence with expert guidance—all in a supportive, hands-on environment.

The goal of this course is to help attendees move towards their independence as fly anglers. Some of the topics that will be covered throughout the weekend are the finer points of casting – accuracy, timing, shooting line; reading the water and picking a proper fly and knowing how to cast it; what to do when you catch a fish – playing and releasing; and ethics. The focus of the weekend will be river fishing, with the opportunity to fish the lake as well.

The weekend is hosted at the legendary Tall Timber Lodge in Pittsburg, NH. The lodge has been in operation since 1946 providing rentals to those seeking adventure in the heart of northern New Hampshire. The lodge is surrounded by the Connecticut Lakes, which are the headwaters of the Connecticut River.

  • The event fee includes – two nights of lodging in a shared Tall Timber “lodge” room, two dinners at the Rainbow Grille and Tavern (meal includes soup or salad, entree, and dessert), two breakfasts, two lunches, and expert instruction.
  • For this event we do require you have a valid NH fishing license and own fly fishing equipment and gear.
  • Participants will also be required to make the short drive in their own vehicles to the river, or carpool with other participants as decided by yourselves.
  • This is a rain or shine event. We cannot guarantee the river conditions, but the instruction team will provide the instruction that weather conditions allow.

Find out if this event is right for you by completing this short quiz. If you have any questions, please reach out to the program coordinator at madeline.a.zukowski@wildlife.nh.gov or call 603-271-3206.
